Five Overs of Fury as Belfast Wolves Get Past Amsterdam Flames

Belfast Wolves produced a breathtaking display of power hitting to overcome Amsterdam Flames by nine wickets in a five-over-a-side thriller at Sportpark Westvliet, chasing down 57 with seven balls to spare.

With the match reduced to five overs per side, there was no room for caution, and both teams embraced the challenge from the very first delivery. Belfast Wolves won the toss and elected to bowl, looking to make early inroads before setting themselves up for the chase.

Amsterdam Flames responded with an attacking approach of their own, posting 56 for two from their five overs. With every delivery carrying added significance in the shortened contest, the Flames looked to maximise their scoring opportunities and set Belfast a challenging target.

But Belfast's response was even more emphatic.

Paul Stirling led the charge, producing a sensational 25 not out from just 10 balls. The Ireland veteran cleared the boundary three times, combining experience with clean striking to give Belfast exactly the start they needed in a contest where every run mattered.

Mark Chapman provided further impetus with 19 from eight balls, while Glenn Maxwell finished unbeaten on 11 from five, ensuring the Wolves maintained their momentum right through to the finish.

Belfast reached 59 for one in just 3.5 overs, completing a nine-wicket victory with seven balls still remaining.

The speed of the chase underlined the quality of Belfast's batting. They required more than 11 runs an over from the outset, yet never allowed the asking rate to become a burden. Instead, the Wolves consistently found the boundary and turned a potentially challenging target into a comfortable victory.

For Amsterdam, Steven Smith top-scored with 20 from 10 balls, while Yuvraj Samra remained unbeaten on 19 from 11. Tim David added nine from six and Bas de Leede finished unbeaten on seven from three as the Flames pushed their total beyond 50.

The five-over format ultimately produced exactly the kind of high-intensity cricket it promised, with both sides committing fully to attacking cricket and the Wolves proving more clinical when it mattered most.
