Matthew Hayden Brings World-Class Coaching Pedigree to Glasgow Cosmic

Matthew Hayden's influence on the game has extended far beyond his celebrated playing career. Since retiring from international cricket, the former Australian opener has built an impressive reputation as a coach and mentor, working with international teams and some of the biggest franchises in T20 cricket. Now, Hayden is set to bring that wealth of experience to Glasgow Cosmic, joining the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) franchise as co-owner and Head coach.
Over the past decade, Hayden has combined his broadcasting commitments with coaching roles at both international and franchise levels. His most notable coaching stint was with the Pakistan senior men’s team, for whom he was batting coach and mentor from 2021 to 2022, appointed ahead of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Hayden quickly became an influential figure within the Pakistan setup, continuing in the role through the 2022 T20 World Cup. During that campaign, he helped guide the side to the tournament final, earning praise for his work with the team's batting group and his mentorship of younger players.
More recently, Hayden served as batting coach for the Gujarat franchise during the 2026 Indian T20 league season. The 2022 champions reached the final, and Haydos had another cap in his extremely illustrious cap, while adding one of the world's most competitive franchise leagues to his coaching resume.
Him coming on board the ETPL is a major coup for Glasgow Cosmic, who will benefit from a coach with experience in working at high-pressure international tournaments and in elite franchise cricket environments.
While Hayden remains one of Australia's most celebrated batters, scoring over 15,000 runs across international cricket between 1993 and 2009, his post-cricket playing career has increasingly been defined by his contribution to nurturing the game and supporting and guiding upcoming talent.
Now, after helping shape players at both the international and franchise levels, Hayden will take charge as co-owner and head coach of Glasgow Cosmic as they prepare for the first season of the European T20 Premier League, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge gathered from working in some of cricket's biggest stages.
Welcome aboard, Haydos!
