Andries Gous is one of the most compelling stories in modern T20 cricket -- a South African-born wicketkeeper-batter who rebuilt his career from scratch in the United States and became one of the most dangerous openers at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Born on 24 November 1993 in Welkom, Free State, Gous spent a decade in South African domestic cricket with the Free State and Knights before relocating to the USA in 2021.

He made his T20 international debut for the USA in April 2024 and made history immediately, becoming the first batter to score a half-century in each of his first two matches in both T20Is and ODIs. At the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Gous was the USA's standout performer, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the tournament's early stages with 182 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 146.77. His finest hour came in the Super Eight stage against South Africa, when he made an unbeaten 80 off 47 balls, carrying his bat through the innings in a performance that drew worldwide admiration.

Across 27 T20I appearances for the USA, Gous has scored 770 runs at an average of 30.80 and a strike rate of 142.85, with six half-centuries and a top score of 81. Behind the stumps, he is sharp and hard-working, making him one of the more complete wicketkeeper-batters in Associate cricket. He has represented franchises in the Caribbean T20 league, the Nepal Premier League (where he scored the first century in tournament history in December 2024), and the Pakistan domestic T20 competition with an Islamabad-based franchise.
