A batter who has made the Big Bash League his own, Benjamin McDermott has developed into one of Australia's most accomplished T20 performers. The right-hander made his BBL debut with Brisbane Heat in 2014 before finding a long-term home with Hobart Hurricanes, where he has become the club's all-time leading run-scorer. His career includes three BBL centuries – the most by any player in the competition – and a remarkable 127 as his highest score.
McDermott's franchise career has taken him well beyond Australia. He has featured for Hampshire and Derbyshire in England, Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, Durban's Super Giants in SA20, London Spirit in The Hundred and Dambulla Sixers in the Lanka Premier League. He also returned to English T20 cricket in 2026 with Lancashire, scoring 256 runs in the Vitality Blast at a strike rate of 145.45.
Power is central to McDermott's game, but his experience as a wicketkeeper adds another dimension to his value. His ability to bat aggressively in the top order while contributing behind the stumps has made him a particularly adaptable T20 cricketer. With more than 5,000 runs in the format and over a decade of franchise experience, McDermott arrives at the ETPL with the kind of proven short-form pedigree that can translate quickly to new conditions.
