DAVID PAYNE

David Payne is the kind of bowler who can change a T20 match in the space of a few overs. A skilful left arm seamer with the ability to swing the new ball and deliver under pressure, he has built a reputation as one of the most reliable white-ball bowlers on the English domestic circuit. Born on 15 February 1991 in Poole, Dorset, Payne has spent more than a decade proving himself as a consistent wicket-taker across formats.

Payne first received widespread attention as a teenager when he produced a remarkable spell of 7/29 against Essex in a 40-over match in 2010, including five wickets in the final over. The performance remains the best List A bowling figures in Gloucestershire's history and hinted at the impact he would go on to make in professional cricket.

Payne eventually earned an England call-up and made his ODI debut against the Netherlands in 2022. By then, he had already established himself as one of the most dependable seam bowlers in the domestic game.

In T20 cricket, Payne has become renowned for his powerplay bowling, regularly providing early breakthroughs against some of the format's most explosive batters. He has represented Welsh Fire in The Hundred and was part of Perth Scorchers' title-winning squad in the 2022-23 Big Bash League, adding franchise success to an already impressive domestic career. Across his T20 career, he has claimed more than 300 wickets, underlining his consistency and longevity in the shortest format.

His red-ball credentials are equally strong, highlighted by career-best match figures of 11 for 87 against Middlesex at Lord's in 2021.
