A left-arm seamer with a wealth of experience in both international and franchise cricket, Fred Klaassen has established himself as one of the Netherlands' most dependable white-ball bowlers. Born in Sussex, the 33-year-old moved through the English domestic system before making his international debut for the Netherlands in 2018. His ability to swing the new ball and vary his pace has made him particularly effective in T20 cricket.
Klaassen's standout international performance came in the 2022 T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, when he produced a sensational 5/19 against Uganda – his career-best T20I figures. He has also been consistently economical in ODI cricket, with best figures of 3/23 and an ODI economy rate of just 4.40. At domestic level, he was part of Kent's 2021 T20 Blast-winning side, taking 4/17 in the semi-final against Sussex.
For Belfast Wolves, Klaassen brings proven experience and a skill-set that can be valuable throughout an innings. His left-arm angle offers variety to the attack, while his ability to swing the ball early and deliver variations later on gives the Wolves a reliable seam-bowling option. His extensive experience of English and Dutch conditions could make him a particularly important asset in the inaugural ETPL season.
