A leg-spinner with the ability to contribute useful runs down the order, Gavin Hoey has emerged as an intriguing all-round option in Ireland's next generation. The Dublin-born right-hander has been a key performer for Leinster Lightning, where his attacking leg-spin and googly have made him a consistent wicket-taking threat. His domestic List A record includes a remarkable 6/26, while he has also produced a 4/25 in the Inter-Provincial T20 competition.
Hoey's progression reached the international stage in 2024, when he made his ODI debut against South Africa in Abu Dhabi. He followed that with his Test debut against Bangladesh in November 2025, taking four wickets across the match and finishing with a best innings return of 2/84. With the bat, he showed his resilience on debut, scoring 37 in the second innings.
Still developing his international game, Hoey's ability to offer a genuine wicket-taking spin option alongside lower-order batting gives Belfast Wolves another dimension. His leg-spin provides a different challenge to opposition batters, while his strong domestic record suggests there is plenty of scope for him to make his mark in the inaugural ETPL season.
