MATTHEW HUMPHREYS

Matthew Humphreys brings a combination of accuracy, variation and an ability to extract turn when conditions allow. The 23-year-old has progressed through Ireland's pathway with Lisburn and Northern Knights, making his senior international debut in 2022 before becoming an increasingly important part of Ireland's multi-format set-up.

Humphreys' breakthrough performance came in Test cricket against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in February 2025, when he returned remarkable figures of 6/57 – his career-best at senior level and the best Test bowling figures by an Ireland bowler at the time. He has also demonstrated his wicket-taking ability in limited-overs cricket, with his 4/25 against Uganda at the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup highlighting his potential from an early stage.

For Belfast Wolves, Humphreys offers a specialist spin option capable of controlling the middle overs while providing a genuine wicket-taking threat. His experience across Ireland's international set-up, combined with his familiarity with Northern Irish conditions, could make him a particularly valuable part of the Wolves' bowling attack in the inaugural ETPL season.
