Mitchell Santner is the captain of the Edinburgh Castle Rockers and one of the most respected white-ball leaders in world cricket. Born on 5 February 1992 in Hamilton, Waikato, the left-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler has been a cornerstone of New Zealand's limited-overs attack since his international debut in June 2015.
Santner was appointed New Zealand's permanent white-ball captain in December 2024, succeeding Kane Williamson, and immediately justified the faith placed in him. Under his leadership, New Zealand reached the final of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where Santner took 3 for 43 in the semi-final in Lahore to steer his side through, and he captained with composure throughout a tournament-long campaign that included a pre-event tri-series title against South Africa and Pakistan.
Across 138 T20 appearances, he has scored 1,108 runs at an average of 21 and taken wickets with metronomic consistency, his ability to control the tempo in the middle overs making him a weapon in any conditions. He was part of two Indian domestic T20 league title-winning squads with a South Indian franchise in 2021 and 2023, and has since represented franchises in England's domestic T20 competition and the UAE-based T20 league. He most recently joined a Mumbai-based franchise for the 2025 edition of the Indian domestic T20 league.
A natural leader who leads with performance as much as presence, Santner brings the full package to Edinburgh -- captaincy pedigree, match-winning bowling, and the calm authority that comes from years of delivering under pressure on the biggest stages.
Mitchell represents Edinburgh Castle Rockers in the European T20 Premier League. Originally from New Zealand, Mitchell brings international experience and flair to every match.
With a career batting average of 24.72 and a strike rate of 133.85, Mitchell has been one of the most consistent run-scorers in the competition, accumulating 3017 runs.
