PETER HATZOGLOU

A leg-spinner with one of the more unconventional routes into professional cricket, Peter Hatzoglou went from playing local club cricket in Melbourne to becoming a Big Bash League standout in the space of just a few years. The Greek right-armer was 18 before he began taking cricket seriously and had never represented Victoria at age-group level, but his performances in Victorian Premier Cricket eventually caught the attention of former Australia international Cameron White. He was signed by the Melbourne Renegades in 2020 and took 17 wickets in his first BBL season.

Hatzoglou has since built an impressive T20 résumé across several major competitions. He has represented the Perth Scorchers, Oval Invincibles, Glamorgan, Saint Lucia Kings, Hobart Hurricanes and Multan Sultans, while also featuring in franchise tournaments in the UAE, USA and South Africa. His best BBL figures of 3/14 came for Perth, while he has developed a distinctive style built around a high release point, sharp topspinners, sliders and googlies.

What makes Hatzoglou particularly difficult to line up is the pace at which he delivers his leg-spin. Rather than relying solely on big turn, he attacks batters with a combination of speed, bounce and subtle variation, making him especially effective when batters are looking to score aggressively. That unusual method, coupled with years of experience across different T20 environments, gives Dublin Guardians a spinner capable of offering something distinctly different in the middle overs.
