STEVE SMITH

Steven Smith is one of the most decorated cricketers of his generation and brings extraordinary experience and batting craft to the Amsterdam Flames. Born on 2 June 1989 in Kogarah, New South Wales, the right-handed batter has represented Australia across all three formats since 2010 and is a three-time ICC tournament winner, having been part of the squads that won the 2015 and 2023 men's one-day World Cups as well as the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Smith's T20 record at domestic level stands out. In the Australian domestic T20 competition, he has scored 1,177 runs across 33 appearances at a strike rate of 148.7, with three centuries and eight half-centuries, holding the joint-record for most centuries in tournament history. He also captained the Washington franchise to the United States domestic T20 league title in 2024, contributing 88 off 52 balls in the final.

Smith retired from one-day international cricket in March 2025 after over 170 appearances in that format, choosing to channel his competitive energy entirely into Tests and the T20s, with the goal of playing in the Olympics in 2028. 

His combination of technical mastery, big-game temperament, and tactical awareness makes him one of the shrewdest acquisitions any ETPL franchise could make. For the Flames, he is an experienced superstar who allows the big hitters around him to play with freedom, while playing the crucial anchor role.
